          Today is second meeting in class of learing American Literature. On third semester, Mr. Hasbi teached English Literature and now, in fourth semester Mr. Hasbi teaching me American Literature. In this semester Mr. Hasbi give us assognment to read six novels, three before mid exm and three again before final exam. Before we are going to the lesson, we are asked to watched film “Avatar the Legend of Korra” and Mr. Hasbi also asked we to take what the message that we can get from this film about America.  After the film is end, Mr. Hasbi show to we are about the character of America Literature.

          Mr. Hasbi  mentioned things about America. Perhaps he just want to know how far our insight about America, mentioned about city in America, popular name, place, ideology, brand and another thing realated to America.

From film “Avatar the Legend of Korra” Mr. Hasbi asked about the nation, republic, ideology, the way of heros in Amerca (out of law) because we are can’t found the message so Mr. Hasbi explain about America that any connected with this film.

America is clever made a brand, how they endeavor their produces such as technology, technology transportation, drinking, meal and other through propaganda films. Once upon time Korra open the door then suddenly one symbol of  BMW pictorial drop from the wall. If we observe directly we are going to realize that it means a sign, sign propaganda product.  America also always consider most important main character as a hero, cause character of American heroes always has perception and also they like a freedom whom out of law government such as film Spiderman, batman, iron man and other.

          Today is second meeting of American Literature, before we meet in the class Mr. Hasbi asked to read some materials, the material is about the history of American, there are “Of The Natural Inhabitants of VIRGINIA” by Captain John Smith. about the ancient land  of Americans, about the buildings, the lodgings, the children, the industries, the order of dyet, the bows and arrows . “May Flower Compact” by William Bradford talked about the fourty men sign the compact in 1620 ,then the poem from Anne Bradstreet , “To My Dear and Loving Husband” the poem is about love for her husband, and this was read by Mr. Hasbi in class and Mr. Hasbi give we the point of this poem, this poem tells about wife who always loving with her husband in many conditions.

After that Mr. Hasbi explain about England Colonial, England came to America in three times. The first colony arrived  in Roanoke (1585)  on the shore of North Calorina, but no one could hold out. All of colony disappeared, the exploration failed. In 1607 the second colony arrived on American land named Jamestown this colony more permanent to build the colonial, this colony came to America by sailed since 1606 almost half of this colony dead on the sea. The last colony came in the seventeenth century. The literature in this period took from journal, diary, log ship.

Than Mr.Hasbi tells about the Cavalier and Puritana, a Cavalier is symbolism of loyality which always attend and wait for his lord, but in this subject a Cavalier different with in the story of Porsena, here a Cavalier is (Royalis) social, economic and politic. Settled at south and build a vast plantation ,they employed African people  “Peculiar Instutitution”. Puitan (Christ) , Puritanism is their percepion. They talked about how to get the happiness in the after life, the way to get it is they have to be rich in their life so in the after life they will get a good place beside him. Two ways to be near wiht god material and spritual.

Now i know more than before about America, and this make me know more or less about America. and i realize tha America can drew by the literature.

In this meeting we talk about “Apostrophe To Sarah Pierrepon” by Jonathan Edward, “Letter From American Farmer, 1783” by Michel-Guillaume-Jean De-Crevecoeur, and “A witch Trial at Mount Holly” by Benjamin Franklin. I follow this lesson with dont have a basic to followed this lesson becausse i’m not really understand about this materi.

Than Mr. Hasbi explained about assigments above, he asked us to knowing the story of American, and Mr. Hasbi said “because we are studying survey of American Literature, so we are must be knowing about story of America”.

In this meeting Mr. Hasbi teach us about “The American Colonies Declare Independence”. In that time we are discussed about war of English vs France. In this discussed we are many talking about Indian, France, and British. Mr. Hasbi said in this war Indian helped France in the war, but France at that time lose in the war. British won becouse cost a lot of money.

I don’t really remember about lesson in today, but i remember there rule that happen in America about taxex and this really uncommon sense because this texes a teend to simple object like sugar.

I just remember about this lesson, and i can understand more than now.

         We just ended the class then we heard that Mr.Hasbi wouldn’t come to the class, in the crowded situation we were confeused by our lecture, Mr.Hasbi couldn’t come to the class but he didn’t allow us to miss the class. We wodered why Mr.Hasbi didn’t come to the class. He asked us to watch “The Last of The Mohicans”, a film which related to the history of America.

         So I asked my friends to go to the calss, into the class I prepared to watch the film. I reuired my friend to send file of this film to my laptop then we watched the film by my laptop that conected to in focuse. We wathced it together but we got problem, the sound from my laptop was not enough to be heard by all it made the condition in the class so noisy just a few students that watched the film clearly. Finally my friend brought sound system, I set it and we got good sound.

         On the early of this film we saw the nature and some men hunt a deer in the jungle by gun then how they family condition in the diner but actually “The Last of The Mohicans” is the film that shows the conflict between England with Franch, England with Mohawk and Mohawk with Mohicans. Nathaniel is the main  character from this film, the first conflict that shows when Mogue as a Mohawk and a leader of his group also, he attacks the colonial troop but helped by Nathaniel and his Mohican friends.

         Condition in the class was not condusif, to many students who chated and walked around. Film played nothing, one by one they left the class just a few students who still watching the film. I felt tired, so I sat on the floor and tried to sleep. Finally the time for this course was over although the fim hadn’t done yet we decided to finish it.

         He didn’t come to the class again, he asked us to watch film again “Lincoln”. It is about how America under the rule of Abraham Lincoln, he is one of some the most famous president in America, we proud of his wisdom, when he was a president he got many trouble especially for rasism between white skin and black skin or negro and civil war also . The situation in the class was really not good, many of us wanted to go home cause no lecture there ,just a few students who stayed in the class, including me .

         Probably about ten to fiveteen people still stayed in the class, I really felt disappointed. Yess I could get materials without lecture in the class but how about another, lecture is not everything , we’re still having book to find out what we want to know, we have internet to search what we need, we have friends to ask about this course but where I have to ask a responsibility, we need something called lecture.Finally we decided lo leave the class, we could watch this film at home.

          Finally I could see his face again in the class. We talked about “Nature” by Ralp Waldo Emerson. Actually I didn’t read this material, but when he asked someone to tell him what abot it is, and Fitri told him about the nature shortly. It’s really about nature, relation between human and nature. Human finds his right in nature , nature gives human life and solution from life problem. Nature is the way to find God for Emerson.

          An intermezo, He told us about that we will get our PPL in the fifth semester, the destinations are Jogja,Bali and Semarang we have to choose on of them, he told us the mechanism of this, about the budget also and about what transportation will be used by us. He said that if we take PPL earlier it could make we pass earlier too, target no more thatn three-half years to get passed.

          Back to the course, we not only talked about “Nature” but also about “Walden”. It’s written by Henry David Thoreau, it’s unique cause he lived in Walden just for two years, two moths and twenty-two days, in Walden he wrote “Walden”. He was born in Concord at  july 12, 1817. He was Emerson’s friend, in 1840 he moved to Emerson’s house cause Emerson had good financial. Thoreau began residence at Walden Pond in 1845 and returned to Emerson’s house in 1847 after finishing his writing.

          Thoreau is one of many writters who supported abolitionist in 1851. Their writing actually about “Transcendentalis” ,They were transcendental cause really want to let their material and jump to nature . Transcendentalism is literary movement in America which beleaves that the spirit of God an universe are one, natre is representation of God and the vichicle for transcendental thought is the poet produces poem.Human and nature share a devine spirit. Hearing sounds of nature and practing what you read are the ways to refreshing mind. Transcedental is the opposite of puritanism which materialistic. Actually the real American literature was built by Club of Boston in 1836, escaped from influence of English literature.

I thought it’s time for mid term test, we divided to several groups. He gave us several questions, these questions are about things that I have not ever read before. I was in Sylmi’s group and finally for several times we could finish all of the questions. The unique one from this course is, after answering all of the question we ought not to collect our answering we just should present and explain one of all questions by one of us, there was rest one question then answred by Mr.Hasbi and for next meeting he asked us to find out about tall tales, just find out.

          Here we talked about Realism in American Literature , I really have to learn more about history of America don’t ask me why cause averybody knows why. It’s about north American and south American, civil war, and also about slavery.

          After showing about source of realism literature in America he asked us about tall tales ,I forgot about his task cause last week he asked us to find out about it, stright I opened friend’s laptop and tried to looking for all about tall tales , I found it and told him about it. Actually he just wanna show us about difference betweet dialec of north American and south American, it was showed by the short story of The celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County by Mark Twain.

          Now was an evauation test, last week he asked us that we don’t prepare anything for this evaluation cause this is just evaluation not mid term test but a lot of us has had preparation for this test.

          Before this meeting Mr. Hasby said that if I have watch the Theater ‘Prabu Maha Anu’ it means I have present in the American literature class today the material is about Drama.

The story tells about the king who felt lonely in his palace. He just has one friend who his body guard is named Baga. They never go anywhere they scary if the government is fall to the uncertain people.

In the class We watched film “Midnight in Paris” , for a while  I felt so bored with this film cause just talking about the history of Paris. It was interesting when approached several famous writers like Ernest, Scott, Elliot and many more. Beside the story there was an analysis of story, it’s called structural analysis. This analysis base on the structure around the story like colour, position, or condition. Actually I don’t really care about this analysis cause it’s not the most essential thing when we watching a film.

          I listened to music, I didn’t know what would he serve today. We were talking about music jazz and blues there are quiet different. What is the different between jazz and blues, I thought both of them are same but actually no. Blues is more identic to sad song that always dilivered by negroid but jazz is more identic to hight classes, to white skin people. Today we talked also about renaisance, about Harlem. I didn’t know what was it about I just listened and be quiet.

Than I can get some knowledge that Harlem renaissance is the artistic and social cultural awakening of African American in the 1920s and1930s. . It was entered around the vibrant African American community Harlem, New York but had for reaching influence in art, music, literature and social. Harlem Renaissance is the name given to the period from the end of World War I and through the middle of 1930s.

          He asked about material for today, all of us didn’t has a material so he asked one of us to copy the material. During we were waiting for the material he gave us several questions, all of the questions refered to the poem, such as the love song by T.S Elliot, the road not taken, this is just to say, the red wheelbarrow and in just. Today we talked about all of that poems.

          We talked about post modernism, before going to the course firstly we lestened to music “fire work” quiiet famous song. I don’t realy understand what relation between fire work song with post modernism. After that he asked us to read the material, A&P, good by my brother and others but I was bored and so lazy so I felt sleepy seriously I didn’t reat what he asked. I got a trouble ,it was trouble for me my friend asked me to join in debate contest but once again I was bored with everything but ok I couldn’t refuse it finally I went out from the class and joined debate contest.

Actually today was our last meeting, just review all of the material but I couldn’t come to the class cause I the schedule was change without give me the opportunity to come to the class because when the schedule is change I was at home and my home is too far to coming at the class. Yeah perhaps is destiny people who have home far from campus.
